Our History

In September 1977, a small group of believers met in homes for prayer seeking to begin a new church in Niceville. The Niceville High School chorus room became the meeting site and the 72 charter members called Jerrell Bunn as pastor. In January 1978, land was purchased and construction of a worship center was begun March of 1979. Edmond Long was called in 1980 as the church's second pastor.

Continued growth brought a necessity for more building facilities. During this time the church was characterized by its benevolent outreach throughout the community. Larry Corder became the church's third pastor beginning in August 1986. Soon thereafter, the body agreed to come under spiritual leadership of elders and added an AWANA Club ministry. The church became debt-free in 1990, but once again felt the need for expansion. Space was rented from Rocky Bayou Christian School to accommodate Sunday School classes, and the worship center was remodeled. In January of 1996, an education building was completed and occupied debt-free, and plans were made for construction of a new worship center. At this time the annual Christmas season presentation of "The Gift" was begun through the music/drama ministry.

While numerical growth continued, two strong ministries surfaced; church missionary support and an active evangelistic single adult group. Through God's provision the new worship center was paid off in October 2000, and in November of 2001, an expansion of the office facility was completed. During these years of growth a true vision of missions continued. Support now extends to more than ten mission families and six established local missions. Teams from Rocky have traveled to spread the gospel of Christ, construct orphanages, and support missionaries stationed in foreign countries. Each expansion and increase contributed to the ultimate mission of leading people into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ.

In January of 2006, Carey Olson became the Senior Pastor at Rocky. Under his nine years of faithful ministry, Rocky grew in its emphasis and love for historic biblical orthodoxy, the faithful exposition of God's Word, prayer, and missions. He also led Rocky in beginning construction on a new Fellowship Hall that was completed in the Summer of 2015.

In April 2016, RBBC called Troy Hamilton to the Senior Pastor position at RBBC.  Coming with a background as a missionary with the International Mission Board, he continues to lead Rocky in its mission to be a light in our community and around the world through faithful proclamation of the Gospel, intentional life-on-life discipleship, and authentic witness to the unreached in word and deed.
